Here’s where my “word” came from …..

Survive -

intransitive verb
1: to remain alive or in existence : live on

2: to continue to function or prosper

transitive verb
1: to remain alive after the death of <he is survived by his wife>

2: to continue to exist or live after <survived the earthquake>

3: to continue to function or prosper despite : withstand <they survived many hardships>

Thrive ~

1: to grow vigorously : flourish
2: to gain in wealth or possessions : prosper

3: to progress toward or realize a goal despite or because of circumstances

As a heart transplant recipient, yes I am a survivor and all of the definitions above apply to me and virtually all of my transplant friends. However, all of us are also THRIVING. OK, maybe not in a “wealth or possessions” point of view, but we have all gained a WEALTH of new friends. Thus, we are THRI-VIVORS!!

I could take you with me to next year’s holiday party for heart transplant recipients and their families, and I can guarantee that with 300+ people in attendance, you WON’T be able to tell who has had a transplant and who hasn’t. We are THRI-VIVORS!!
