Slowing Down Life

Every once in a while, life will be moving too fast. At times, there’s nothing I can do about it, except hang on and go along for the ride. But when I can, I will slam the brakes on and attempt to slow down the runaway freight train.

This past week has been like that in many respects. It’s been one of the busiest and highest stress weeks we’ve seen since my heart transplant.

This morning I got up a bit earlier than normal and sat by the open window in my den listening to the world around us come to life. I took the time to smell the flowers, to hear the birds and to see everything I could see in the dim morning light. It was just what the doctor ordered.

For me, it slowed down the world just a bit and gave me some renewed energy.
