Top 10 ~ Questions and comments

It’s been a little over 2 years and 9 months since my heart transplant. In that time, I’ve met, spoken with or been introduced to lots of people who had never met a heart transplant recipient previously. I was their first. I was that “oddity of life”.

Over that time, I have heard some wild comments and interesting questions to which I had virtually no response. Oh, at times I wanted to respond, and maybe at some point, if I hear these again, I will. But for now, I’ll try to be polite.

I’m sure many other organ recipients have heard some of these, maybe even others. Please feel free to share.

These are the top 10 questions or comments that I have documented. Just to clarify, these all came from ADULTS, not kids.

1) You almost look normal! (I have heard this one A LOT!!)

2) What’s the monthly payment for something like that?

3) What if the donor was black?

4) Did you get that from a family member?

5) You’ll live …… what, about a year or two?

6) Did you have to go very far to find a heart?

7) What if the donor was gay?

8) That’s spooky, I’d never go for that.

9) Could you hear the doctors talking during surgery?

10) How often do they have to go in and change the battery?

You do have to laugh at life!!!
