Moments in Time

Five years ago today, somewhere around 9am, I was cruising down the interstate of life at about 85 MPH, stereo blasting, not a worry on my mind when God decided to step on the brake pedal with both feet, swerve to the right and make an abrupt exit onto a different road. The skid marks left behind looked like this ……

I had a massive heart attack, saw “Picture 45” (read that HERE), passed out, plowed my face into my desk, CPR, 9-1-1, Paramedics, ambulance, ER, heart cath, 3 blockages and a statement I’ll never forget …. “You need a little triple by-pass, and you’ll be home in 3 days”. (The more detailed version can be read in “My Story”.)

It was a cool, cloudy, dreary day ….. I remember everyone around me being a bit frantic, but for some unknown reason, I was calm and at peace.

It was not a life defining moment, but it was the start of many HUGE life altering moments that would happen over the next 4 weeks.

Of course, there was also another person in my life, my HERO, that was on some sort of collision course with destiny as well. It may have already started, or not ….. but in two very short, yet LONG weeks, with God’s touch, our paths would cross. This person, my donor, and their family is in my prayers daily.

I remember this song ran through my mind later that day, five years ago …..

“In the arms of an Angel far away from here
From this dark, cold hotel room, and the endlessness that you fear
You are pulled from the wreckage of your silent reverie
In the arms of an Angel; may you find some comfort here.”
Sarah MacLachlan “In the Arms of an Angel”
