Moments in Time ~ Hearing the “T” Word

Five years ago today, they had removed the breathing tube and I was conscious more and more. At one point, one of lovely nurses, one of my angel’s of mercy in the ICU first whispered this to me ….. “You are my miracle man, you’ve had a heart transplant.”

As that significant word “transplant” floated through the air I didn’t know if it was real or not as I had been hallucinating due to all the very heavy-duty drugs I was on. I didn’t know where I was for sure, much less that I needed a new heart.

I remember inquiring with family and was told, “We’ll talk later, you need your rest.”

Later, the same nurse whispered the same line to me once again …….

Then ………. I knew for sure!

I was ALIVE, I was at peace with the “T” word immediately!

  1. I remember experiencing that same day in my own life. I remember waking up and realizing someone was holding my hand – it was my lovely wife. With tears in her eyes she said, “You got a new heart.”

    We are both blessed.

We are very lucky aren’t we. I just got back from having my 2nd annual check up. It went GREAT. You were the first blog about heart transplants I started following. Did you write your donor family a letter? It is hard to put such feelings into to words let alone write them on paper.
    Have a wonderful day!
