Beautiful Day – Let It Rain

“The times we spent together, all the happiness and tears. All these many special moments will make memories through the years.”

We’ve had a summer of extreme heat and very little rain in the area around My2ndHeartBeat World Headquarters, aka NE Ohio. However, yesterday was different. It was chilly and we had a heavy drizzle / rain here most of the day. It was a huge contrast to the rest of our summer. At times it was uncomfortable, since we were outside most of the day.

Yesterday was the day where we, in the organ transplant community, honored our organ donors and celebrated the “Gift of Life” while raising funds for our local OPO (Organ Procurement Organization), which is Lifebanc.

For myself, it is an amazing, exciting, reflective and very spiritual day. The rain helped mask my tears as we honored our donors in the Legacy Garden with balloons lifting our prayers to heaven for our donor’s and their families. My thoughts and prayers were for a person, a hero that saved my life. And of the family that still mourns them. This hero will always be a part of me and I always want them to be smiling down from heaven.

I was part of an amazing team, called Rowdy Hearts. We have 2 great co-captains, and a lot of support from a local company and our families and friends. Our team of about 85 people, 11 of which are heart transplant recipients, raised somewhere close to $4,000 out of the over $200,000 that was raised for Lifebanc.

An important part of the day for me is just spending time with our family & friends. It’s like Christmas in August or perhaps even a family reunion.

I am so blessed to be able to participate in this event and even more blessed by simply knowing and spending time with my team mates. Thank you to all that participated, donated and registered to be an organ donor.

My thoughts from yesterday that I wrote on a great friend’s Facebook page – “What an awesome day despite the weather. Some tears, lots of hugs, lots of laughs, a day filled with thoughts of our donors and their families, never ending gratitude, tons of prayers to heaven …… it was all good and I feel so blessed just to be able to participate. Spending the day with my Rowdy Hearts = PRICELESS!!!”

This post is so bittersweet. Amazingly you captured both sides: the donor and the recipient. Your donor loved you enough to give you life even though he didn’t know you. How awesome is that? I bet, and I don’t really know, that on the day of your new birth your donor family not only thinks of the one that they loved and lost but you also.
