“Only those who dream of flying will ever grow wings.” – Robert Lerch
Did you ever feel like you could fly?
I get that feeling a lot after I work out at my local gym, 3 or 4 times a week. Getting frequent and plenty of cardio exercise is important to me, to keep this borrowed heart functioning properly. It’s right after my workouts when I think I could walk through the air.
I’m sure the clinical version is that the exercise releases endorphins, which can lead to what is called a “runner’s high” or a state of euphoria.
But my “high” is a little different as I “see” the walk. I’m not just euphoric.
When I’m finished with my workout, I leave the gym where the machines are located and have to walk across the basketball court. That’s when it happens. I’ll be maybe 30 feet away from one of the baskets when through my eyes, I can see myself “sky-walking” through the air like Michael Jordan did for years, and slam a basketball through the hoop. I’m easily chest high with the 10 foot rim. As soon as I land and pass through the doorway into the hall, the feeling is over, the vision is gone.
This doesn’t happen on occasion, it happens virtually every time I’m leaving the gym.
Now, people who know me will laugh because, even though I’m about 6′-1″ tall, I’ve never been a “jumper” and basketball was not my game. Ever!
I played baseball and we used to use “visualization” to improve our batting ….. see ball, hit ball ……. but this sky-walking is a different ….. I see it and I feel it ……
Who knows, maybe my heart donor (also known as “my HERO”) was a basketball player?
Regardless, “Michael Jordan-esque” I’ll NEVER be!
