National Doctor’s Day

“People pay the doctor for his trouble; for his kindness they still remain in his debt.” – Seneca

March 30th of every year is National Doctor’s Day!

Today, I’d like to honor the doctor that literally has touched my heart and gave me a new chance at life.

From the quote above, I’ll forever be indebted to my hero, “Dr Gonzalo Gonzalez-Stawinski (pictured below). He literally walked into my life and I was reborn.

Dr. Gonzalez, or “Gonzo” as he is often affectionately called, was the cardiothoracic surgeon that transplanted the heart of an anonymous donor into my chest on May 10 & 11, 2007. Then, due to complications hooked me up to an ECHO machine, also pictured below.

I was truly blessed to have crossed paths with this gentleman. He’ll ALWAYS be my hero, and the hero to many of my friends as well.

Thank you Gonzo!! And Happy National Doctor’s Day!!

Signed, #1293

Dr Gonzalo Gonzalez-Stawinski ~ Many of God’s miracles have flowed through his hands.

For those that have never seen one …. my wife says this is a representative picture of the ECMO machine that I was connected to (somewhere back in there is a patient with more hoses and wires attached than you could even imagine) Thanks again, Gonzo!! –
