He who can no longer pause to wonder and stand rapt in awe, is as good as dead; his eyes are closed. – Albert Einstein

As April is Nation Organ Donor Awareness month, and I have filled your email box with my daily “The Gift” series …. perhaps even bored some of you a bit ….. I need to talk a little about what this transplant journey means to me!

As I look at Einstein’s quote above, I will tell you that my heart transplant journey has left me, ON A DAILY BASIS, to “stand rapt in AWE!”. My eyes are open, as is my heart and soul.

To know what I went through to get where I am today. To know what my family went through at the same time …. it does leave me in awe.

So what else am I in awe of …… let me count the ways!

I’m in awe of life and how great it is. Life is NOT a selfish, narcissistic event. It is meant to be shared, not only while we are here walking this earth, but also to be shared in any way possible at the time of our last breath. God has blessed me in ways that some can’t see. Many see my scars …. I see LIFE!!

I’m in awe of my family and my friends that inspire me, love me, forgive me and encourage me on a continuous basis.

Each and every day, I stand rapt in AWE as I think about the person who gave me life as theirs ended! Daily, I wonder about my donor, weep & pray for him or her and my donor family as well!!! I received the ultimate gift.

I’m in awe of the medical community and their extreme intelligence and in their true caring for human life.

I’m in awe of the simple things as well as the complex items that God has given us …. a bird singing, a beautiful cloud floating by, a thunderstorm, snow storms ….. sunlight passing through trees, a flower and yes, even a dandelion.

In the aftermath of the Boston bombing chaos this past week, I remain in AWE of the mankind! Yes, there were a couple of extremely WICKED people involved, but at the same time there were tens of thousands of truly fantastic people involved as well. I’m in AWE of these truly beautiful people.

How could I NOT be breathless? My life has been breath-taking!!
