“A hero is someone who has given his or her life to something bigger than oneself”
Color me TOUCHED!!
Today I had the honor of attending my niece’s high school graduation party. I knew there would be a large number of family and friends there. I planned on relaxing and having some fun but never did I think that I would be profoundly touched before the party was over.
My niece is a VERY intelligent young lady. She amassed nine different scholarships prior to graduation and the entire family, including myself, is very proud of her.
The party was going along well when I was told a story … a profound story that deeply touched my heart.
One of the scholarships she has received was in memory of a young man who died in May of 2005 when he crashed his dirt bike while not wearing a helmet and had a fatal brain injury. Not long before this event happened, this young man registered to be an organ donor and after he was declared brain-dead, he did in fact donate his organs and saved EIGHT lives. Every year, in his honor, there are EIGHT scholarships awarded in his name, for the EIGHT lives that he saved through organ donation.
Amazingly, my niece received one of these incredible scholarships.
The story was beyond touching to me …. it was emotional to have organ donation once again touch my family in a very positive manner.
Not only are there 8 scholarships awarded each year, but they also support Lifebanc, which is our local “Organ Procurement Organization”.
May God always bless Michael Jay Danner and his family!!
