Ahhhh, Valentine’s Day …. some would call today a Hallmark holiday. Regardless, the never-ending marketing of seemingly everything has evolved to the point where the entire month of February has been turned into “Heart Month” by way of the American Heart Association, last week was “Wear Red for Women’s Heart Health” and today is not only “Valentine’s Day”, but it is also “National Donor Day”.
As I sit here and look out my window at snow-covered roof tops here at My2ndHeartBeat World Headquarters, I think those marketing folks are pretty smart. Today is a day of LOVE.
Love and Valentine’s Day are synonymous … and everything is hearts! Has been for decades, still is today.
Heart Month is also about love …… love for each other, caring about our health.
Wearing Red for Women’s Heart Health is all about the love we have for the women in our lives.
But as a heart transplant recipient, love and “National Donor Day” …… that runs deep for me. It’s not a cheesy, “Holiday” …… for me it is all about LOT of LOVE ……. deep from inside of me….. a touching, heartfelt love for not only my anonymous heart donor, but for all donors. It takes a loving person to be an organ donor. One that is willing to give everything to help save someone else’s life. Be they a deceased or a living donor I know they have given pure love, more often than not to strangers, people they will never meet. There is no more purer expression of love, than what an organ donor gives.
I honor my donor daily in my heart, in my thoughts and in my prayers. I thank God for ALL donors that have given so much ….. have given EVERYTHING ……. out of LOVE! And that love extends to the donor families as well ……. the families also gave LOVE at a high cost.
So, yes, today is about love ……. but so is tomorrow, and the day after that …… every day of the year is and should be about LOVE!
And I am sending some of my love to YOU!! Happy Valentine’s Day and Happy National Donor Day!!
