  1. what are your thoughts on the proposed new allocation system changes? I’m just curious. I think they actually have some good proactive changes to the liver distribution that make more sense & or will help more people. At least it looks that way on the surface.

I was unconscious through my journey, so I can’t talk about my wait. However, through volunteering for the past 8 years, hearing the patient’s stories and visiting with them in the hospital during some of the worst days on their lives I do believe the allocation does need tuned up.

There are 4 basic statuses for hearts on the waiting list ……. 1-A, 1-B, 2 and & 7. 1-A is currently for the sickest folks, in hospitals, close to death. But, folks on LVAD’s also get 30 days of 1-A status, even though they are home, walking around doing well. There are status 2 people that can barely empty their dishwasher without taking a break, while others go on “vacation” a number of times a year. Some folks with congenital issues also slip through the cracks in the current scheme.

Refining the system will help …… they are also looking at geographical changes as well. To get the organs to the sickest folks first.
