#HeartTransplant News – Heart Allocation Changes in 2018 – #UNOS

Last year, on Sept 1, 2016 I wrote {HERE} and linked to some Adult Heart Allocation changes that were being discussed and worked on by the wonderful people of  UNOS/OPTN. (A search through Mr Google showed these changes were APPROVED by the UNOS/OPTN board in Dec of 2016)

Via Twitter this afternoon, we received word from UNOS that these changes will be programmed this year and be implemented next year, 2018.

I’m not sure exactly what was approved, but if my memory serves, the plan was to increase the total number of statuses from the traditional 1-A, 1-B and 2 ……. to SIX statuses, (not including status 7). See graphic below.
