Remembering – 50 Years Ago Today

“It is infinitely better to transplant a heart than to bury it to be devoured by worms.”

~ Dr Christaain Barnard

Fifty years ago today, Dr Christiaan Barnard (1922-2001) and his team transplanted a heart for the first time. The patient, Louis Washkansky, died 18 days later from pneumonia.

Thank you Dr Barnard for being a true pioneer.
