Reflections of April 28, 2007

By the Grace of God –

Eleven years ago today, on Saturday, April 28, 2007 at about 9:30am, God decided that my life needed to go in an immediate and different direction by way of a massive heart attack.

I remember sitting at my desk, downloading pictures taken during a recent vacation, from my camera to my PC.

I had started the process, saw picture number 45 flash on the bottom right corner of the computer screen and the next thing I remember seeing were the boots of the three paramedics that were surrounding me in my den. I remember being carried from the house, the ride in the squad to the hospital, the subsequent heart catheterization, and the doctor telling me that I needed surgery and that I’d be good as new and home in 3 days.

As I am able to remember and reflect on this, the first day of a 28 day fast and furious journey today is because, by the Grace of God, with major help from a lot of highly trained and very dedicated medical professionals and one HERO, I was spared.

I had no idea that the journey I was about to embark on would have me cross paths with a true hero. My HERO! The HERO that saved my life …. with their final heartbeat. (Yes, organ donation DOES work)

Thank you God, thank you to all the medical providers that touched me then and continue to help me today, thank you to my family and a HUGE thank you to my donor and donor family, for the most amazing gift one could ever receive.

I do not fear today, but I do mark it as a turning point in my life …. this day, was, as all others are, a gift from God, and I will always be grateful for this step in my journey.

That journey that started eleven years ago today, has been and continues to be amazing!

  1. Glad you received that “second chance”, my transplant brother. I pray you are continually blessed to fight a good, long fight and finish the race strong that the Lord has set out for you (2 Timothy 4:7)
