Heart Attack – Plus 9 Years

“Except for the occasional heart attack, I’ve never felt better.”

~ Dick Cheney

Nine years ago today, I had a heart attack that would start me down a path …… well, actually the heart attack was more like I was propelled off of a cliff. I landed at the bottom of that cliff twenty-eight days later. During that free-fall, I would have a triple by-pass, would flatline over a hundred times and shocked back to life just as many times, two hospitals, a helicopter ride, have Lord only knows how many tests, would be given a new chance at life through a heart transplant, spend a week in the ICU,  5 days of which hooked up to life support (aka ECMO), another week on a nursing floor before being released.

I came home 35 pounds lighter …… a completely broken man!

But, as I look back over the last nine years …… and I’m going to write something that might sound completely insane ….. I am GLAD all of that happened. I’ve got to live an additional 3,275 days …. I have met so many very incredible people on this journey …… I’ve gotten to watch my family grow ….. I’ve grown up with my 2 grand kiddos …. I live life and have so many people touch me in positive ways, almost daily.

It’s been God’s plan for me …… and I am THANKFUL!!
