15 Years Ago Today, 5/25/2007

Fifteen years ago today, on the 28th day of this incredible journey of life and death, I was released from the hospital. I was going home.

My morning, started off with some tears, and lots of thoughts and prayers for the passing of the hero that had saved my life. It was a crazy busy morning of occupational therapy, of lengthy discharge instructions, having a “central line” removed. And a dozen other things. Family picked up all of the medications (15 prescriptions and 55 pills per DAY) at a cost of about $4,000. I also was able to take an actual shower. Though in reality I sat on a shower stool and finally washing my crusty hair felt good.

I remember Dr “T” stopping by to see me. I was lost in thought when he entered and he laughed at me because “ER” was on the TV. He told me that what I had gone through in this short amount of time was like winning the lottery of consecutive days. To go home, to heal, and to live life and to be productive. His words were burned into my mind.

I remember it was a warm, beautiful day. I remember the uneventful ride home in the backseat of the car, and what will become my place to ride for the next 6 or 7 weeks as to avoid airbags in any potential crash.

I remember the long walk into the house, the slowness and unsteadiness in which I moved. I remember the “walker” that I was instructed to use, catching on doorways and throw rugs and that slowed my pace even more. I remember the solemn quiet of home.

It was a day FILLED with LOTS of emotions!

Thank God you are still here my friend. Memories are good. Especially when they remind us where God has brought us from. Blessings and Peace!

  2. Glad you finally could do a few things on your own. Feeling your presence here is like feeling the presence of the grace of God. His grace has been plenty for you.
